Just as you would expect from a car descending from such an illustrious heritage, it's very refined, but still retains a performance-centric look that's clear at first glance. There's abundant evidence of its Italian racing heritage everywhere you look, and with the pronounced angle of its windshield and tapered nose that leads back to a flowing shape, even at a standstill you can picture it slipping easily through oncoming wind. Though it features a design that's now 15 years old, there are no figurative aesthetic cobwebs anywhere in sight, and if this Maserati were to come off the assembly line today, that design would undoubtedly still be seen as inspired and very much of the present. The years appear to have been kind to this coupe, leaving it well aligned, straight and eminently road-ready. The tan leather interior offers a nice balance of luxury and ergonomics, with high-backed bucket seats in front that are deeply bolstered for support during spirited cornering, but still have the opulence you'd expect from a Maserati. While this is certainly not your typical commuter vehicle, the rear seating isn't just there for show - you really can put two passengers in back with a straight face, and they'll be partitioned by a convenient fold down arm rest for added comfort. This Maserati has a gracefully curved dash area that features an instrument cluster filled with a full complement of very readable gauges. Look closer and you'll see that the speedometer is calibrated to 200mph - a subtle hint of this car's prowess. Just above, the dash pad retains a supple look and is tear-free. As a Maserati, this coupe's racing heritage is evident, but it doesn't run short of comfort, either, as it features power seats, power locks and power windows, as well as cruise control and air conditioning that's running strong to keep everyone comfortable on the road. Airbags placed on both the driver and passenger side are a welcome safety feature. We're normally accustomed to equating displacement with power, but there's magic in engineering, as well. The 4.2-liter V8 sitting under the hood may not consume all that much space, but it packs plenty of power - 390 horsepower, to be exact. It's a free revving powerplant - hitting maximum power at 7000 rpms and teams with a 6-speed shiftable automatic transmission to make for a drivetrain inducing more exhilaration than an amusement park. That transmission is where this Maserati gets its Cambiocorsa designation - roughly translated, it means "race change", which is apt terminology for the efficiency of the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters that allow you to easily run through this performer's gears. Especially in SPORT mode, the shifts are very quick (about 0.25 seconds). The transmission has four modes. Comfort, Power, Ice, and Automatic. They all have their own purpose and function well. The car has the MSP traction and stability control. Since this car has the highly sought after Skyhook suspension system, when the SPORT button is pressed, many things change to make the car more sporty. It tightens the suspension, changes the level of intervention of the stability control system, tightens up transmission shifts, and opens flaps in the mufflers to make the car's exhaust note louder and deeper.
